Think of this page as a package breakdown. Put the package you received next to it, whether it is a PDF, a printed sheet or a screenshot of a WhatsApp message, and read it one line at a time. Each line below says what a clear package states, and gives you the question to send when it says nothing.
If you are buying for a parent, read it with them if you can. They are the ones who will live the trip, and some lines, such as the room or the journey between the two cities, matter more at seventy than at thirty.
What should a written Umrah package from Morocco contain?
It should read like an itemised bill. Each line tells you what you are paying for, and nothing important is left to a phone call. The eight lines in the table above are the skeleton. As far as we know, no public template in Morocco fixes this list for Umrah packages; it comes from what a family needs to know to leave without surprises.
Most packages first arrive in a short form: a flyer, a Facebook post, a voice note, a picture forwarded in a family group. That first contact gives a period and a starting price. It is not the package. The written version should take each line in turn, and if the answer you get is “everything is included”, ask for the list. What an all-inclusive package really covers is checked service by service.
Three habits help before you start reading:
Line by line
- Keep the package exactly as you received it, with its date, before any conversation changes it.
- Underline what is written, and circle what is not.
- Send your questions in writing and ask for written answers, in the same message thread.
A missing line does not prove that a service is missing. It only means the package does not commit to it. The seller's written reply fills the gap, not a promise made out loud.
Who is selling it, and under which licence?
This is the first line to read, and often the shortest. Under Law 11-16, no travel agency in Morocco may open without a licence, and there are 2 licence types: Travel Organiser-Distributor (ODV) and Travel Distributor (DV)1. Applications are filed online and handled by the Tourism department's regional services, which also handle withdrawals1.
A clear package names the company, not only a social media page. It gives an address, a phone number and the licence type the company holds. The Ministry of Tourism publishes the travel-agency directory, including the lists of ODV and DV agencies licensed under Law 11-16, on mtaess.gov.ma2. The name printed on the package should be one you can find there. agenceomra.ma's step-by-step licence check shows how to search it.
The question to ask is simple: who organises the trip, and whose name will be on the contract? Sometimes the person who sent you the package is not the company that runs it. The package should then say so. Reading this line is not the same as checking it: look the company up in the ministry directory before the first payment.
What does the hotel line promise?
It promises two things, once for each city: which hotel, and how far it is from the mosque in the package's own words. The clearest case is a named hotel in Makkah and another named hotel in Madinah. The most common case in adverts is a hotel category followed by “or similar”, which leaves the choice of building to the seller.
According to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry, since 10 June 2025 an Umrah visa is issued only if the accommodation is registered on the Nusuk Masar platform, in a hotel licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism that confirms the booking electronically3. In practice, a booking in a named hotel exists before the trip. It is therefore reasonable to ask for that name, even when the advert said “or similar”.
Read the distance carefully. Copy it in the package's words, whether that is “a few minutes away”, “facing the Haram” or a number of metres, without converting it. We found no source that says how agencies measure it: on foot, in a straight line, or to which gate. What the distance means on the ground for an older parent is a trip-logistics question, covered in voyageomra.ma's explainer on hotel distance from the Haram; this page only reads how the package writes it.
And the room?
The price shown is for one occupancy: a room for two, three or four people. If the package gives a single price, ask which room it is calculated for. If your mother or father is travelling without you, also ask who they will share the room with. It is a question of comfort and of rest, and it is settled before departure, not at the hotel desk.
How many nights, and in which city?
Count nights, not days. A “two-week” package can hold fewer nights on site than it sounds, once the outbound and return travel days are taken out. A clear package writes the number of nights in Makkah, the number of nights in Madinah, and the order of the two cities.
The dates also have to fit the official season. For the 1448 Umrah season, visas and arrivals opened on 31 May 20265. The last visas will be issued on 9 March 2027, the last entry is on 23 March 2027 and the last departure on 7 April 20275. A package whose return falls after that last departure date deserves a question before anything else.
With the nights split by city and the price per person for your room, you can work out a price per night and compare two packages fairly. The comparison tool does that arithmetic in your browser and keeps nothing.
Are the flight and the transfers described?
For the flight, the package should name the airline, the departure airport in Morocco and the arrival airport in Saudi Arabia, and say whether there is a stopover. According to the Royal Air Maroc website, the airline sells Casablanca-Jeddah and Casablanca-Madinah flights9. Landing in Jeddah or in Madinah does not give you the same first day, so the package should say where you land. The baggage allowance belongs on this line too; if it is not there, ask for it.
There are two journeys to read under transfers. The first is from the airport to the hotel and back. The second links Makkah and Madinah, by coach or by train. The Haramain High Speed Railway is an electrified line of about 450 km between Makkah and Madinah, with 5 stations, one of them at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah6. If the package says “train”, ask whether the ticket is in the price and who carries the suitcases between the hotel and the station.
Visa and insurance: what the package should say
According to Gulf News, citing the ministry, insurance is mandatory for Umrah pilgrims coming from abroad and it is included in the visa fees8. According to Gulf News, citing the ministry, it covers medical emergencies, accidents, death and flight delays or cancellations, among other things8.
So this line should leave no doubt: the package says plainly whether the entry formalities are included or not, and any file or handling fee appears next to it. If you are offered extra insurance on top, ask what it adds to the cover already included, and at what price. It is not necessarily useless. It is a line to understand before you pay for it.
How does the package write the payment?
A readable package gives the total price per person, the currency, the amount of the deposit, the date the balance is due, and what happens if the trip is cancelled, by you or by the seller. We found no public source on the usual deposit for an Umrah package in Morocco, so we cannot tell you whether yours is “normal”. We can tell you it should be written down, together with the date the rest is due.
The question to ask: if I cancel on a given date, what do you give back? Ask for the answer in writing and keep every receipt. Payment terms are read in detail in deposits and payment plans explained, and the lines that should make you pause are gathered in Umrah package red flags.
What if you assemble the trip yourself?
No published list confirms that Morocco is among the countries served by the direct “Nusuk Umrah” service10, but anyone who assembles parts of the trip writes the same eight lines: hotel, room, nights in each city, flight, transfers and refunds. Put your own figures into the comparison tool next to an agency package to see them on the same basis.
Buying from abroad for your parents?
Then the written package is the only conversation you can rely on. Ask for every line by message, keep the replies together, and make sure your parents have a copy of the final version and a phone number that answers in Saudi Arabia. The guide to buying a package for your parents covers the questions that come up most when the buyer is not the traveller.
Have a package in front of you and one line that makes no sense? Send it as it is.
What remains unclear
- Meals: no source in our register says what an Umrah package from Morocco usually includes in terms of meals. Read what your package writes, and ask about the rest.
- Hotel distance: we found no source on how agencies measure it (walking, straight line, or to which gate). We copy it as written.
- Deposits: no public source gives the usual deposit for an Umrah package in Morocco, or a standard payment schedule.
- “Or similar”: we found no published definition of what this wording allows the seller to change.
- Direct booking: no published list confirms that Nusuk Umrah serves Morocco10. We also have no source on the route open to Moroccans who live in another country.
